How to Add and Manage Accounts
Add bank accounts, cash wallets, credit cards, and savings pots. Understand account types, opening balances, and how to archive or delete accounts.
Understand account types
Finzu supports six account types: Checking (everyday bank account), Savings (savings pot or high-yield account), Cash (physical cash), Credit Card (revolving credit), Investment (brokerage or pension), and Debt (a loan or mortgage you're tracking).
The type affects the icon and colour shown on the account card, but has no impact on calculations — all types work the same way under the hood.
Set the opening balance correctly
The opening balance is the amount in the account at the moment you start tracking it in Finzu. It is not the balance when you opened the account at the bank — it's the balance right now (or as of the date you choose).
For a checking account with €1,250 in it today, enter 1250. For a credit card with a €300 balance you owe, enter -300 (negative). For a loan, enter the remaining principal as a negative number.
Tip: Get the opening balance right once and the app handles everything else from your transactions automatically.
Important: Never edit the opening balance after you've started recording transactions — it will shift every balance calculation. If you made a mistake, add a correction transaction instead.
Add the account
Go to Accounts → tap + Add account. Fill in: Name, Type, Currency, and Opening balance. Tap Save.
The account appears immediately on your Accounts page and dashboard. Its balance starts at the opening balance and changes with every transaction you assign to it.
Archive vs. delete
Archiving hides an account from the dashboard and the Add Transaction sheet without removing any data. Use this when you close an account but want to keep its transaction history.
Deleting permanently removes the account and marks all its transactions as from a deleted account. The transactions are kept for data integrity but excluded from all dashboard totals.
To archive or delete, open the account from the Accounts page and use the options menu.
Tip: When in doubt, archive — you can always un-archive later. Deletion is permanent.
