Setting Up Monthly Budgets
Create spending limits per category, track how much you've used, and get a clear picture of where your money goes each month.
What budgets track
A budget sets a spending limit for a category over a period. Finzu shows how much of the budget you've spent so far and how much remains.
Budgets only count expense transactions assigned to that category — income and transfers are ignored. This means your budget progress always reflects actual spending.
Create a budget
Go to Budgets → tap + Add budget.
Choose a category (e.g. "Groceries"), set the limit amount, and choose the period (monthly is the default).
Tap Save. The budget card appears with a progress bar showing spending so far vs. the limit.
Tip: Start with your top 3–5 spending categories. You don't need to budget every category — focus on the ones where you want to change behaviour.
Read the budget card
Each budget card shows: the category name, the amount spent this period, the limit, and a colour-coded progress bar.
Green means you're under budget. The bar turns orange when you've used 80% of the limit, and red when you've exceeded it.
The header summary shows total budgeted amount vs. total spent across all budgets for the current period.
Navigate between months
Use the ‹ › arrows at the top of the Budgets page to move between months. Spending figures update to reflect the selected month, so you can review past months at any time.
Budgets repeat automatically each period — you set them once and they track every month going forward.
Tip: Review last month's budgets before setting new ones. If you consistently go over a category, either adjust spending or raise the limit to match reality.
